René Cabel, The Tenor of The Antilles is a work of eternity from director Emilio Oscar Alcalde, who has achieved with this documentary, sitting us down to talk, in unaware intimacy, next to the loquacious and cheerful bolero singer, the Cuban René Cabel. It is the redemtion on a pending subject. The thunderous and melodic voice of Cabel already had a guaranteed place in history. Now, Alcalde has solved the equation and presents him in his sincere conversation, settling down the social and anecdotic circumstances of a career filled with success, together with meaningful testimony of his closest friends and family who entrust, with the closeness granted to the closest, of fulfilling the picture of the artist on his exclusivity.
René Cabel, The Tenor of The Antilles does not soaks in the drunkenness of nostalgia, so brought into the recovery of the use of symbolic figures of the musical Cuban culture. Alcalde does not elude an invitation to Tropicana, the famous "Paradise under the stars", but at the same time, his poetic cinematography makes out of the bolero singer an unusual comtemporary.

Dear friend,
I found formidable the documentary about René. It is a tribute to him and the Cuban musicians in general. A great edition work, with complementary footage very in accord with the theme. Unforgettable scenes, like the final at Tropicana.
Congratulations,

Dear Emilio,
I've just seen the documentary about René Cabel and the truth is I am impressed. I believe, you really knew how to choose the most outstanding moments of his artistic career and you benefited from the participation of very important people of Cuban's music. It is indeed, sad to confirm how so many of the great ones of our art, found themselves forced to leave the country because of Fidel Castro. I liked very much, the words from many of them, when they talked about La Habana of those times. That is something that can make anyone sad, especially if you think about what La Habana is these days and the irreversible way in which that country disappeared from the map. I believe, that those characters could leave a lot of interesting historic memories, of the kind we are going to need in the future. The rest of it, I repeat, I liked it very much. I think that more than one person will drop a tear when they see it.
